Obama Will Praise U.S. Sacrifices for Iraq in Speech

President Barack Obama will declare a fresh start for the United States as it ends its combat role in Iraq, according to excerpts of his remarks to be delivered Tuesday night.

“The United States has paid a huge price to put the future of Iraq in the hands of its people,” Obama will say from the Oval Office. “We have sent our young men and women to make enormous sacrifices in Iraq and spent vast resources abroad at a time of tight budgets at home.”

Obama will announce, “Now, it is time to turn the page” and focus on the United States’ suffering economy, which “must be our central mission as a people,” according to the excerpts.
