Perriello Charged in Traffic Accident; Woman Injured

Rep. Tom Perriello has been charged with making an unsafe lane change, allegedly causing a traffic accident Friday night in which a 23-year-old woman was injured, according to media reports.

The Virginia Democrat was not hurt in the crash, and the Virginia State Police do not consider alcohol or speed to be factors, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

But Perriello was allegedly driving about 50 miles southwest of Richmond at about 8 p.m. in a 2005 Ford Ranger pickup truck when he tried to change lanes and struck a 1996 Ford Explorer, which then crashed into the median.

Three passengers in the Explorer were uninjured, but the 23-year-old woman was taken by ambulance to a hospital with minor injuries.
