A former aide to Sen. Mary Landrieu will become Twitter’s first downtown Washington employee.

Adam Sharp, who now works at C-SPAN, tweeted Thursday that he “will be @Twitter’s 1st DC staff, but join 300+ strong team committed to improving govt, political debate. Start 11/29.”

In an interview, Sharp said his new job duties will not require him to register under the Lobbying Disclosure Act. He said one of his primary responsibilities will be “the official listener” in Washington for the tech firm.

“It’s not a lobbying and advocacy job. The goal is to work with government in all branches to make better use of the platform and elevate the civic debate,” he said. “It’s a young company, gaining strength, still very much in startup mode and the priority is education.”

He also said there are not any plans to add more Washington staff.

According to his Facebook page, Sharp has been C-SPAN’s executive director, digital services, since February 2009. He arrived at the cable channel from Landrieu’s office, where he was the Louisiana Democrat’s communications director and deputy chief of staff for more than four years.
