Heard on the Hill: She’s Loco for Activism

A tired but enthusiastic KaDee Strickland visited Capitol Hill last week, but the actress joked she didn’t plan on drinking an infamous caffeinated alcoholic energy beverage to help stay awake.

On Thursday, the same day A-list stars Jennifer Garner and Geena Davis testified before separate Senate committees for various causes, the “Private Practice” cast member met with Members of Congress on behalf of the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network.

Strickland connected with RAINN while doing research for a recent episode in which her character was brutally raped. During her Hill visit, she lobbied for the SAFER Act, which seeks to end the backlog in DNA rape kit testing.

Strickland met with Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and Reps. Jo Ann Emerson (R-Mo.), Dutch Ruppersberger (D-Md.), Gwen Moore (D-Wis.) and Jack Kingston (R-Ga.). It was her first lobbying trip on Capitol Hill, and she called it “an honor and a privilege” — despite suffering from a little jet lag.

“I’m on so little sleep, and I feel like I’m in a heavenly dream state on this gorgeous day,” Strickland said.

HOH joked Strickland should grab a Four Loko to wake up, but she didn’t want to indulge. “No, nor do I plan on it,” she said, laughing.
