Obama Grants First Pardons of His Presidency

President Barack Obama pardoned nine people Friday for crimes ranging from cocaine distribution to illegal possession of government property, in his first pardons as president.

Timothy James Gallagher of Texas, Roxane Kay Hettinger of Georgia and Floretta Leavy of Illinois were all pardoned for offenses relating to conspiracy to distribute cocaine. Edgar Leopold Kranz Jr. of North Dakota was pardoned for wrongful use of cocaine, adultery and writing three insufficient fund checks.

James Bernard Banks of Utah was pardoned for illegal possession of government property, Russell James Dixon of Georgia was pardoned for a felony liquor law violation and Laurens Dorsey of New York was pardoned for conspiracy to defraud the United States by making false statements to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Obama also pardoned Ronald Lee Foster of Pennsylvania for mutilating coins and Scoey Lathaniel Morris of Texas for passing counterfeit obligations.
