HOH’s One-Minute Recess: They Call It Puppy Love

Rep. Michael Grimm is a modern-day St. Francis, the legendary patron saint of animals. The New York Republican will adopt a rescue puppy.

Everybody together: Aww!

The pup’s pregnant mother was found sick and mistreated at a puppy mill in Missouri.

At 10 a.m. Wednesday, the Humane Society will bring the puppy, Sebastian, to Grimm’s D.C. office, introducing the tiny furball to his new master and office caregivers for the first time.

Grimm spokeswoman Carol Danko wouldn’t reveal Sebastian’s breed, but fellow staffers are invited to come meet the new office dog, who will trail the Congressman in the Cannon House Office Building and all the way back to his home district from now on.

Grimm isn’t adopting just to up the cuteness factor — though he will be flaunting his new best friend at the District’s Fashion for Paws dog runway show on April 9.

And Danko said he’s not looking to use the puppy to win more votes for his animal bills, the Veterans Dog Training Therapy Act or the Puppy Uniform Protection and Safety Act.

“I think the Congressman just wanted a dog,” Danko said. “He figured he might as well rescue one.”
