HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Indiana Lawmakers Score, Too

He might be one of the busiest Members of the House, but Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) isn’t too swamped for a bit of friendly gambling — especially when basketball is the game and food is on the table.

Mimicking the friendly duck-ham wager between Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) and Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels (R) on this weekend’s Final Four face-offs, Cantor and Rep. Bobby Scott (D-Va.) bet Indiana Reps. André Carson (D) and Dan Burton (R) that Virginia Commonwealth University would win the matchup against Butler University.

Luckily for the Virginians, the stakes weren’t so high. Butler beat VCU 70-62. The Virginian duo waged Virginia wine and gourmet peanuts while the Indiana lawmakers bet cupcakes and popcorn from Indianapolis.

Carson and Burton, no doubt, will be gloating over their new treats.

As for loser Cantor, he’s still proud of his team: “The Rams showed that through hard work and unselfish play, great things can happen,” he said in a statement. “Their tournament run was an incredible Cinderella story for the University, Richmond and the entire Commonwealth.”
