Russ Carnahan Posts Best Fundraising Quarter of Career

Rep. Russ Carnahan is on track to have ample funds for his re-election campaign — wherever that will be.

The Missouri Democrat, whose district will likely be dismantled this cycle after redistricting, announced Tuesday that he raised $333,500 in the first quarter of this year. That total shows he’s “serious about another run for Congress” and is the best first quarter of his career, his spokeswoman boasted in an email.

Carnahan also has about $286,000 in the bank, according to campaign spokeswoman Sara Howard.

Missouri will lose one House seat this cycle because of population loss, and Republican lawmakers in the state have proposed a new Congressional map that folds much of Carnahan’s district into that of Rep. William Lacy Clay (D). Although Republicans in the state Senate and House have proposed two different maps, both of them shift much of Carnahan’s Democratic base into Clay’s urban St. Louis district.
