Democrats Fundraise Off ‘Birther’ Issue

Think it’s funny that some voters doubt President Barack Obama’s citizenship? Then his 2012 re-election campaign has just the thing for you.

“There’s really no way to make this stuff completely go away,” Deputy Campaign Manager Julianna Smoot told supporters in an email Wednesday. “The only thing we can do is laugh at it — and make sure as many other people as possible are in on the joke. … If the facts can’t make these ridiculous smears go away, we can at least have a little fun with it.”

The message links to an Obama birth certificate coffee mug, featuring the president’s image, a copy of the long-form birth certificate that Obama released last month and the “Made in the USA” stamp.

“Stay caffeinated for campaign events (and everything else) with a limited-edition Made in the USA mug. Donate $15 or more to get yours,” the promotion reads.
