Shelley Berkley Up 5 Points in New Poll
Nevada Rep. Shelley Berkley (D) leads appointed Sen. Dean Heller (R) by 5 points in a Senate poll released Tuesday by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and pollster Mark Mellman.
Berkley took 42 percent to Heller’s 37 percent, showing the likely nominees in a tight battle that will continue for the next 17 months. A Mellman Group poll in March found Berkley leading 42 percent to 38 percent.
“When Dean Heller was appointed to Nevada’s Senate seat, many speculated it could give him a leg up in his race against Shelley Berkley,” Mellman wrote in a memo. “Our just-completed poll makes it clear that has not happened.”
The poll was conducted June 11-14 of 600 likely voters and had a 4-point margin of error.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee responded to the poll by noting there were no primary numbers included in the release. Berkley, who has been endorsed by the DSCC, will first need to get past wealthy primary opponent Byron Georgiou.
