Jim Brewer’s relationship motto is “go big or go home,” and this week he completely outdid himself.

After three months of planning, plotting and sweating, the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades’ chief lobbyist proposed to his girlfriend of two and a half years, Allison Haun, on the tip-top of the Capitol Dome.

“She’s the love of my life,” Brewer tells HOH.

The two crazy kids have known each other since their college days in North Carolina. Back then they were just friends, he says, and had lost touch after graduation. The two reconnected in 2009 at an inaugural ball (not even kidding).

“I walked around the corner and bam!” he says. “My eyes just locked on her. ‘It’s Allison,’ I thought.”

When the two danced that night, Mr. Romantic dipped her and they shared their first kiss (aww!).

After Brewer proposed and Haun accepted Wednesday, they made their way down the Members steps in front of the House side of the Capitol. At the bottom of the steps, Brewer made sure that their family and friends were waiting for them.

He shouted: “She said, ‘Yes!’” Their family, friends and a bunch of tourists clapped and cheered! Haun burst into tears, and Reps. John Lewis (D-Ga.),  Betty Sutton (D-Ohio) and Michael Grimm (R-N.Y.) congratulated them.
