Florida Senate hopeful Mike Haridopolos raised more than $900,000 in the second quarter, a significant drop-off from his first-quarter haul.

The Republican raised a whopping $2.6 million in the first quarter of the year, but campaign manager Tim Baker told Roll Call on Tuesday that the campaign was satisfied with its fundraising haul in April, May and June. He also conceded that the campaign expects its total to be surpassed by GOP opponents.

Baker explained that Haridopolos, the Florida Senate President, had been focused on the legislative activity for a significant portion of the quarter and later jumped fully into grass-roots campaigning — and thus had less time for fundraising. “We feel very happy about how much we did raise given where our focus was,” he said.

Haridopolos faces former Sen. George LeMieux, former Florida House Majority Leader Adam Hasner, and retired Army Col. Mike McCalister in the GOP primary to take on two-term Sen. Bill Nelson (D).

Setting expectations, Baker said he thought both LeMieux and Hasner would beat Haridopolos’ haul this quarter. “We expect that both of those guys will be able to best that number.”
