HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Turn Out for the Tune Inn
The Tune Inn may have tuned out for the time being, but Capitol Hill denizens can still help their local fave.
The bar and restaurant, frequented by Members, Hill staffers and residents alike, is closed for repairs after a fire last month resulted in at least $75,000 worth of damage.
With the closure comes the displacement of 10 restaurant staffers, none of whom have health insurance.
To support the Tune Inn’s staff, a group of residents and businesses will host a fundraiser Friday at the American Legion Post 8 (224 D St. SE). Tickets are $20. The goal is to raise $50,000.
The fundraiser, which will run from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., will feature food from local restaurants and food trucks, live music and raffles. Attendees have the chance to become a part of the Tune Inn by bidding on plaques that will be placed in the booths. And for those who want a little piece of the dive for themselves, two of the deer butts that hung on the Tune Inn walls for so long will be auctioned off.
Also up for grabs: memorabilia from the 2009 inauguration and tickets to Washington Nationals and Capitals games.
Can’t make the festivities? Don’t fret: Tune Inn lovers can donate on the Friends of Tune Inn website.
