Christie Vilsack Makes Steve King Challenge Official
Former Iowa first lady Christie Vilsack (D) plans to formally announce her bid against Rep. Steve King (R) Tuesday.
Vilsack opened an exploratory committee earlier this year to run for the newly redrawn 4th House district in northwest Iowa. She also began a district-wide listening tour.
Obviously, Vilsack liked what she heard. Democratic sources say she plans to officially unveil her campaign next week.
Vilsack’s announcement comes on the heels of solid fundraising quarter. She announced earlier this week that she brought in $424,000 for her House bid.
“As I consider running for Congress, I am inspired and humbled by the folks who take the time to share their support and their ideas of how we can build a campaign together that is true to the Iowa values we hold dear,” Vilsack said Thursday in a statement touting her fundraising.
A King campaign aide declined to release his fundraising numbers ahead of the filing, due Friday at midnight. The five-term Republican reported $143,000 in the bank at the end of March.
WHO-TV in Des Moines first reported the news of Vilsack’s Tuesday announcement.
