Candidates for the special election in Nevada’s 2nd district announced their fundraising numbers for the month of June.

State Treasurer Kate Marshall (D) raised $170,000 from June 5 to June 30 and finished the month with more than $200,000 in cash on hand. Former state GOP Chairman Mark Amodei, who had an extra week to fundraise based on the parties’ differing nominating schedules, raised $116,000 from May 30 to June 30, ending the month with nearly $100,000 on hand.

Marshall and Amodei are running to replace appointed Sen. Dean Heller (R) in a district no Democrat has ever won. However, two months from the Sept. 13 election, outside groups and both party committees are watching the race closely. The Marshall campaign views her fundraising numbers as a clear sign that the race is competitive.

Despite her shortened time frame, Marshall won the month with some assistance from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.). The far more unsettled Republican field may have hurt Amodei’s early numbers — there were three top Republican candidates in the race until Amodei was nominated June 18.

“I’m excited and energized by the overwhelming support Nevadans have shown my campaign,” Marshall said in a statement.

Marshall has now raised a total of $246,000, and Amodei has raised $139,000.
