Union Station a Tentative Location for Brewery
Capitol City Brewing Co. closed its Massachusetts Avenue location in mid-July, with tentative plans to open a new location in nearby Union Station in October.
The restaurant’s lease ended after more than 15 years in that location. According to sources at the Smithsonian, the National Postal Museum will expand into the space that formerly housed the restaurant.
As for Cap City, Hill staffers and residents will have to trek downtown (1100 New York Ave. NW) or to the Arlington, Va., location (4100 Campbell Ave.) for their local brews.
Some of the equipment was moved out of the brewery this past weekend to the Virginia location, but much of it will be scrapped or sold in an online auction.
While the company plans to open a new restaurant in Union Station, the future location is not set, brewer Micah Krichinsky said.
H Street Construction
Steuart Development broke ground on 360 Degrees H Street last week.
The six-story building will include a Giant Food grocery store on the ground floor, a parking garage and residential units. Construction is expected to be finished by 2013.
Located at Third and H streets Northeast, the 286,500-square-foot project will be in a LEED-certified building. The grocery store is expected to be finished by late spring of that year.
The residential part of the building will consist of 215 units. Leasing on the apartments is scheduled to start in early 2013.
The project is expected to cost about $50 million, sources said.
Dog Night at Yards Park
The Yards Park’s Friday Evening Concert Series will host Dog Night at 6 p.m. Friday.
For the pets, the event will include free doggie treats and giveaways from Chateau-Animaux, a local pet store on Barracks Row (524 Eighth St. SE).
And for the owners, FUSE will hand out free drinks and have an inflatable Twister game. Smokin’ Somethin’ will sell barbecue, while Mie N Yu and Stella will sell beer and sangria. Children can visit the CSX kids zone.
Friday’s music comes from Signature Live!, an R&B/funk group. After the concert, a Zumba class will be hosted on the boardwalk.
