Attorneys for Rep. Larry Kissell (D-N.C.) sent a letter to Time Warner Cable Media today asking that a television advertisement from the National Republican Congressional Committee knocking Kissell be taken off the air.

In the ad, set to air for three weeks on Charlotte-area cable, the narrator says, “Congressmen like Larry Kissell waste billions” and encourages viewers to tell Kissell to support a balanced budget amendment.

Steven A. Hockfield, counsel for Kissell’s campaign, called the ad “inaccurate and misleading” in the letter.

Because Kissell became a co-sponsor of H.J.Res. 2, a balanced budget amendment, on July 29, Hockfield alleges that the NRCC “is purposely airing an inaccurate and misleading advertisement that does not give Rep. Kissell credit for being part of the very solution the NRCC is proposing to solve the nation’s debt problem.”

The NRCC noted that Kissell voted against the Cut, Cap and Balance Act, which included a balanced budget amendment.

“Larry Kissell opposed a balanced budget amendment that would force Washington to live within its means,” NRCC spokeswoman Andrea Bozek said in a statement to Roll Call.

The 8th Congressional district race is rated Likely Republican by Roll Call.
