Heard on the Hill: Doodling for Dollars

Paging the New York Times: There seems to be a trend brewin’ of Members of Congress and former Members selling their artwork online.

Over the summer, HOH brought you the fun news that former Rep. Jim Traficant’s (D-Ohio) original horse painting was being auctioned on eBay. Now we’ve moved from paintings to doodles.

On Tuesday, the progressive group Netroots Nation auctioned a doodle by Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-Ariz.) that has an estimated value of $105.

“It’s well known that one of the things that Progressive Caucus Co-Chair Raul Grijalva does to help his concentration is doodling,” exclaims the doodle’s online description. “If you win this item you will be the proud owner of one of his most recent Doodles from our archives!”

It seems times are tough all over because Netroots Nation accepted just 42 big ones for the signature piece.

This isn’t the first time the Congressman has sold his art to fundraise. The Daily Kos auctioned off several of his doodles in 2010.
