Heard on the Hill: Take Five!
Every Tuesday, HOH gets to know a Member of Congress better through a series of five fun questions. This week Rep. Kurt Schrader (D-Ore.) talks about his career as a vet and the Founding Father he would like to take to dinner.
Q: What’s your drink of choice?
A: My drink of choice is beer. Preferably a good Oregon microbrew or a Belgian-style beer.
Q: What’s your favorite quote?
A: “Rome didn’t conquer the world by having meetings; they killed their opponents.”
Q: If you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
A: James Madison, our most important Founding Father.
Q: What was one of the most eventful cases you worked on as a veterinarian?
A: The most eventful case I worked on was adapting a human slip pocket skin graft technique for Fishstix. The horse was badly burned in a barn fire.
Q: Your bio says you were a farmer. What did you farm?
A: We raised sheep and grew strawberries organically. We also maintained a sustainable community farm for members of nearby urban areas.
