Homebuilder Jumps Into Iowa House Race

Republican homebuilder Dan Dolan announced Monday his candidacy for Iowa’s 2nd district. He will face John Deere legal counsel John Archer in a primary for the chance to take on Rep. Dave Loebsack (D) next fall.

Dolan’s announcement took a shot at both Archer and Loebsack, a former college professor.

“The status quo in Washington needs some common sense, not another corporate lawyer or professor,” Dolan said. “Unlike Congressman Loebsack, who has never worked in the private sector, I understand what it takes to create jobs and fulfill the American dream by owning a home.”

Redistricting makes this Democratic seat more difficult for the party to maintain. Loebsack chose to move to remain in the new 2nd district after redistricting lumped him into the same district as fellow Democratic Rep. Bruce Braley. Loebsack raised $150,000 in the third quarter.

Dolan has some built-in name recognition because his homebuilding business has appeared in local television advertisements.
