Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney had more than twice as many votes in Nevada’s caucuses than the closest runner-up, former Speaker Newt Gingrich (Ga.).

With 71 percent of precincts reporting, Romney had 11,822 votes this morning, for 48 percent; Gingrich had 5,623, or 23 percent.

Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), who has staked his presidential campaign on winning delegates in caucus states, came in third with 4,619 votes, or 19 percent, while former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) was in fourth place with 2,749 votes, or 11 percent.

Nevada will award its 28 delegates proportionally. Five other states will hold nominating contests this month.

Romney also won the Nevada caucuses in 2008.
