He may have been a week late, but Rep. Keith Ellison has FINALLY submitted his inspirational foreword to a forthcoming tome examining the challenges facing modern-day Muslim-American men.

The Minnesota Democrat, who also happens to be the first Muslim elected to Congress, agreed to put pen to paper and scribble a little something to help introduce “All-American: 45 American Men on Being Muslim.”

Ellison was supposed to submit his subjective observations early last week but wound up pushing the envelope by withholding his copy until late Friday. “I am biting my nails as we are rushing to get this wrapped up,” an angst-ridden White Cloud Press staffer told HOH prior to perusing the final draft of Ellison’s 370-plus word composition.

As part of his missive, Ellison prods everyone to positively affect the collective human experience. “If you can make a movie, make one. If you can sing a song, sing it. If you can write a play, write it. If you want to run for office, run,” he suggests. “But do something to make this world a better place.”

“All-American” marks the second installment in White Cloud’s introspective “I Speak for Myself” series, which kicked off in 2011 with “American Women on Being Muslim,” a collection of personal essays culled from wide-ranging contributors — including Congressional Quarterly writer Elham Khatami. The forthcoming and theoretically final chapter, “Voices from the Arab Spring Movement,” will chronicle the recent uprisings in the Middle East.

“All-American” is scheduled for release May 21.
