Former state Sen. Richard Tisei (R), who is taking on Rep. John Tierney (D) in Massachusetts’ 6th district, got the endorsement of Sen. Scott Brown (R) on Monday.

“I’ve known Richard Tisei for 25 years as both a friend and a colleague in the State Senate,” Brown said in a statement. “We need more independent-minded fighters like him in our delegation if we’re going to get the economy moving and get America going the right direction again.”

No Massachusetts Republican has won a seat in the House since 1994, but Tisei has at least a shot of coming away with a win in the North Shore-based district that trends independent. Roll Call rates the race as Leans Democratic.

“Scott Brown proved that a candidate with a positive message about economic growth, jobs, and freedom can win in Massachusetts,” Tisei said in a statement. “The people are crying out for change in Washington. That’s why they elected Scott Brown in 2010 and why I believe they’ll elect me in 2012.”
