Michigan: Another Democrat Challenges Justin Amash

Former state Rep. Steve Pestka announced Monday that he will seek the Democratic nomination to challenge Rep. Justin Amash (R) in the fall.

“I want to give back to the community that has given us so much by restoring our voice in our nation’s Capitol, where I will never forget those West Michigan values,” Pestka said in a statement.

Pestka will join former Gov. Jennifer Granholm campaign staffer Trevor Thompson in the Democratic field.

Roll Call rates this race as Likely Republican. Republicans redrew the Michigan map last year, moving boundaries to ensure several GOP House Members had safer districts. The exception was Amash, who watched his district become more competitive as a result of the redraw.
