Take Five

Every week HOH gets to know a Member of Congress better through a series of five fun questions. This week, Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Ala.) talks about the Crimson Tide in the NCAA basketball tournament, his love of Starbucks and his favorite Southern dish.

Q: Any predictions on how far Alabama will advance in the NCAA tournament this year?

A: I haven’t been following the season real closely. I think we’ll go pretty far. I don’t know exactly if they’ll go the whole way. I’m optimistic that they’ll do well.

Q: Coffee or energy drinks?

A: Coffee. I’m a big fan of Starbucks. As a matter of fact, I’ve been known to take my folders and my notebooks and work at Starbucks, even on the Hill, quite a bit.

Q: What’s your favorite Southern dish?

A: There’s a dish that my mom cooks and also my wife cooks called a poppy seed chicken casserole. That has to be my favorite.

Q: What’s the one place you haven’t visited that you would like to?

A: We recently had an intern from Australia. He spent a lot of time talking about Australia. He said that it reminded him of Alabama, so I think that would be near the top of my list.

Q: Alabama’s Republican presidential primary is tonight. Do you have any special plans?

A: I do plan to be here in Alabama. I’ve endorsed Rick Santorum in the primary. I don’t have a primary opponent, so I’m going to be able to watch the presidential election very closely, hoping that Rick Santorum does well here in the state and brings it home.
