Democratic Reps. John Lewis (Ga.) and Louise Slaughter (N.Y.) have signed on as honorary co-chairmen of the D.C. Arts and Humanities Education Collaborative’s second annual Patriotic Arts Fete, a fundraiser focused on keeping local kids in school and culturally engaged.

The event, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, at Lincoln Restaurant, will set partygoers back $25 — a contribution to support the nonprofit’s mission of providing expanded arts and humanities opportunities (30,000 subsidized field trips, to be exact) to all D.C. public and charter schools, as well as advancing the professional development of the associated teachers.

A group spokeswoman said it collected about $25,000 from last year’s event. The group is fully expecting to take in less this year (smaller venue, cheaper admission price) but is willing to do so in order to help recruit younger, aspiring (but obviously less affluent) supporters who can grow with them. “It’s more of an awareness-raising than a traditional fundraising,” the spokeswoman said.

The invitation suggests that attendees will be treated to soft drinks, wine and “signature hors d’oeuvres,” but the menu has yet to be finalized. Keep those fingers crossed for the delectable duck sausage rolls (the hot mustard makes the meal) and zesty lamb sliders.
