Shop Talk: Revolution Agency Hires Account Director

Revolution Agency, a Washington, D.C.-based issue advocacy and public affairs advertising firm, hired Sheena Arora as account director to expand its creative and public affairs reach.

Arora spent the past three years at Message Global working on behalf of clients to advance social action campaigns and corporate social responsibility around the world. She previously served as national campaign coordinator for the ONE Campaign and spent a year in the office of then-Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.).

“We are thrilled to have Sheena join our agency,” Revolution founding partner Matt Leonardo said in a statement. “Her experience working on inventive advocacy campaigns perfectly gels with the unique approach we bring to our clients, and will further enhance Revolution’s work.”

Greene Promoted

Julie Greene was named deputy director for the AFL-CIO political department, which educates and mobilizes voters and conducts voter registration and get-out-the-vote efforts.

Greene is a former account executive at MSHC Partners. Her previous work for the labor union included stints as assistant director for the political department and campaign operations analyst, during which she was responsible for the full scope of national and local political communication outreach to members, including direct mail, telemarketing and targeting.

Greene joins Political Director Michael Podhorzer and will be responsible for developing, executing and aligning programs across multiple departments, campaigns and affiliates; voter registration; voter mobilization; member organizing; and political community organizing.

Right by the Bay

Four political operatives were named by the Republican National Convention to manage the official program, conduct floor operations and help support communications for the August event in Tampa, Fla.

Committee on Arrangements CEO William Harris announced that Todd Cranney, deputy political director for Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign, will be director of delegate outreach; Tony Feather, a Missouri-based operative, will be director of whip operations; Jim Dyke, president of JDA Frontline, will serve as a senior adviser and support convention communications; and Anne Hathaway, a former Republican National Committee chief of staff, will serve as convention program director.

“We’re extremely fortunate to be able to engage this tremendously savvy group of seasoned political veterans,” Harris said in a statement. “They’ll bring to the convention a formidable set of skills, both individually and collectively.”

Who’s Your Papa

Jim Papa, a veteran Democratic political and communications strategist, was named senior vice president, managing director for strategy and operations in Global Strategy Group’s D.C. office.

Papa, who starts June 12, joins the firm from the White House, where he served as special assistant to the president for legislative affairs.

In that capacity, Papa engaged directly with Members of Congress from both parties, leadership staff and committees.

“His extensive experience on Capitol Hill and in the White House will be incredible assets to our team and to our clients,” the firm’s CEO, Jon Silvan, said in a statement.

Papa began his career working for then-Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) and then moved to the House in 1998 to become communications director for Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.), later serving as senior adviser to then-
Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel (Ill.).

“Papa is someone you want in the trenches with you,” Emanuel, now Chicago’s mayor, said in a statement. “He’s smart, experienced, and his political instincts are razor sharp.”

Harcom and Prosper

Republican strategist Tyler Harber is moving the general consulting and international practice he built at the Proper Group to his new Alexandria,Va.-based firm, Harcom Strategies.

“This move will allow the Prosper Group to concentrate on expanding its core online practice while allowing my team at Harcom Strategies to focus more effectively on general consulting and international clients,” Harber said in an email.

Harber said Prosper Group’s Kristen and Kurt Luidhardt have been very supportive of the move and that the two firms “will always share a special relationship.”
