Seth Moulton (I), a Marine veteran who had considered a bid for Congress against Rep. John Tierney (D), said today he had decided not to run.

“The time and the logistics of putting together all the campaign infrastructure, organizing the volunteers … the fundraising — it’s just too much to accomplish in three months,” he said.

Had he run for the Bay State’s 6th district seat, Moulton would have had to submit 2,000 valid signatures by the end of the month, no small task. Moulton said he would have caucused with Democrats, had he been elected.

Moulton told Roll Call that he did some polling that “showed there was in fact a clear path to victory” and left open the possibility of a future bid for political office.

Moulton, a triple-degree Harvard University graduate, served four tours of duty in Iraq. He works for a privately backed effort to bring high-speed rail service to the United States.

“I am committed to the ideals of public service, and I would like to serve sometime in the future,” he said.

Tierney, who has been politically damaged by his wife’s family’s legal troubles, faces a tough fight against Republican Richard Tisei in November.
