There’s No Place Like Out for the Holiday

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s threats to keep the Senate in Washington through the Thanksgiving holiday didn’t come to pass, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be Hill staffers stuck in town to work or caught because of a lack of concrete travel plans.

If you fall into either category and are hanging around for the holiday rather than traveling to your home state, we’ve compiled a list of restaurants serving up Thanksgiving-style meals to help you get your tryptophan fix.

And for others who will have family and friends coming to Washington, we’ve found some Thanksgiving meal deliveries to make your preparation quick and easy.

Art and Soul

Southerners looking for a taste of home should look no further than this Capitol Hill haunt.

On Thanksgiving Day, the restaurant will serve up a buffet-style meal with traditional Thanksgiving staples — think roast turkey and pumpkin pie — and Southern-inspired sides such as sweet potato-pecan casserole and cornbread stuffing.

All-American classics such as apple pie are available for dessert.

Location: 415 New Jersey Ave. NW

Cost: Adults, $55; children ages 6 to 12, $25

Sequoia

If you’re looking for a scenic view to go with your Thanksgiving feast, then Sequoia is a good bet.

The upscale restaurant with a panoramic view of the Georgetown waterfront is hosting a three-course, prix fixe dinner, replete with Thanksgiving- and fall-inspired dishes.

Diners have a choice of a traditional entree — a turkey duo with chestnut stuffing, sweet potato and cranberry sauce — or less conventional choices such as a pistachio-crusted rack of lamb with roasted garlic mashed potatoes, or oven roasted miso-glazed salmon. Cranberry cheesecake, apple crumble and pumpkin flan await diners for the dessert course.

Location: 3000 K St. NW

Cost: $45

Charlie Palmer Steak

With sweeping views of the Capitol, Charlie Palmer Steak is the perfect place for a Congressional junkie to eat a Thanksgiving meal.

Although the menu is not much different than a typical dinner at the steakhouse — with filet mignon and New York strip among the main course selections — traditionalists can find a dish or two to celebrate. Organic free-range turkey is available, with traditional accoutrements such as mashed potatoes and cornbread stuffing.

Location: 101 Constitution Ave. NW

Cost: Adults, $70; children age 12 and under, $25

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Dupont Circle joint will serve up a Thanksgiving Day brunch with traditional fare such as sweet potato souffle and sausage stuffing, as well as a turkey carving station.

Brunch items such as omelets, smoked salmon and a bellini bar will also be available.
