Reality TV Congress?

Looks like politicians are finally catching on to the possibilities of reality TV, looking to steal some thunder from reality greats such as Honey Boo Boo Child and the Kardashians.

In the House, Rep. Chaka Fattah, the 10-term Democrat who represents Philadelphia, has launched his own reality series called “Fattah Around Philly.”

Fattah says the YouTube series — which shows the congressman interacting with groups in his northwestern Philadelphia district and feels like a mixture of CSPAN and a local cable access show — is his way of directly reaching out to his constituents to show them the work he’s doing in the community every day.

“I’m trying to let my constituents know exactly what it is that I’m doing, since they live very busy lives and can’t be everywhere,” Fattah told HOH.

He added that with the shrinking number of reporters and limited amount of local news coverage he can get, the series gives him his own way to get information out to the masses.

“I think that when other members see it, I think it will catch on,” Fattah said.

Over at the White House, a new online series called “Being Biden” launched late last week.

The series features behind-the-scenes photos of Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. with audio narration from the gaffe-prone veep. Installments of the series will be posted on the White House’s website.

“It’s a fascinating world and I’d like to share some of my experiences with you,” Biden says in the inaugural installation of the new project, in which he dons an apron and serves up wild game at a dinner being served at a volunteer firefighter squad in Leipsic, Del.

We’ll be waiting with bated breath for upcoming episodes.
