Great Fundraising By House Financial Services Committee Members

The big winners in first quarter fundraising appear to be members of the House Financial Services Committee. The following committee members raised more than $250,000.

House Financial Services Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) raised $616,693 ($261,500 from PACs); Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) raised $678,666 ($1,000 from PACs); Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) raised $580,316 ($481,636 from PACs); freshman Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Fla.) raised $557,912 ($108,000 from PACs); freshman Rep. Thomas Cotton (R-Ark.) raised $526,515 ($153,853 from PACs); Rep. Ed Royce (R-Calif.) raised $465,407 ($177,579 from PACs); Rep. Gary Peters (D-Mich.) raised $373,147 ($294,200 from PACs); freshman Rep. Andy Barr (R-Ky.) raised $365,747 ($183,075 from PACs); (more)Rep. Steve Stivers (R-Ohio) raised $340,285 ($150,175 from PACs); freshman Rep. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) raised $333,063 ($111,500 from PACs); Rep. Steve Fincher (R-Tenn.) raised $332,332 ($104,375 from PACs); Rep. Michael Grimm (R-N.Y.) raised $320,860 ($165,250 from PACs); and freshman Rep. Ann Wagner (R-Mo.) raised $288,208 ($174,000 from PACs); Rep. Keith Rothfus (R-Pa.) raised $264,684 ($77,228 from PACs); among other committee members.

In 2011, the House Ethics Committee released a report regarding fundraising around major financial services legislation. A political law briefing was issued today by Venable LLP entitled, “Even the Appearance of Corruption: Caution When Fundraising Around Major Legislation.”
