Busch Far Surpasses Sanford in Fundraising, but Media Spending Close
House Democratic candidate Elizabeth Colbert Busch far surpassed former Rep. Mark Sanford, R-S.C., in March and first half of April fundraising for the May 7 special election in South Carolina’s 1st District. From Feb. 28 through April 17, Busch reported raising $877,694, and as reported in two reports, one report for Feb. 28 to March 13 and another report for March 14 to April 17, Sanford reported raising $453,556.
For the period Feb. 28 to April 17, Busch reported raised $339,204 from contributors who gave $200 or less, and Sanford reported $26,040. Busch received $96,000 from PACs and other committees. Sanford reported $12,500.
Busch started the period with $208,630 in cash on hand, raised 877,865 and spent $831,865, leaving $254,460 in cash on hand as of April 17. Sanford started the period with $364,715, raised $453,556, spent $534,025 and has $284,246 in cash on hand as of April 17.
For the period Feb. 28 to April 17, Busch spent $395,315 on media and Sanford spent $349,532.
