In Washington, D.C., politicians call “common ground” a fundraising event and those with “common values” are those who contribute. Two U.S. senators who use those words in the name of their leadership PAC have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in 2013.

The leadership PAC of Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., Common Values PAC, reported today it raised $199,150 and spent $161,673 from Jan. 1 to June 5, leaving $127,722 in cash on hand. The PAC raised $20,250 from individuals and $178,500 from PACs , most of which are sponsored by companies with lobbyists. Donors were from Fierce Isakowitz & Blalock, Williams & Jensen, among others.

The leadership PAC of freshman Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., Common Ground PAC, reported yesterday it raised $513,941 and spent $291,700 from Jan. 1 to June 5, leaving $323,094 in cash on hand. The PAC raised $368,050 from individuals and $118,500 from PACs, most of which are sponsored by companies with lobbyists. Donors came from a variety of Washington lobbying firms including Akin Gump, Williams & Jensen, Baker Hostetler, among others.

The PAC gave out $58,200 to candidates and committees, including $32,400 to the DSCC, and $5,000 to Edward J. Markey, D-Mass., and $2,600 to each of eight Senators.
