Super PAC Has Legal Issues

It’s one thing to give more than $1.6 million to a super PAC you founded, but to have to provide more than $130,000 in in-kind legal services must be annoying.

Paul Singer, principal at Elliott Management Corporation, contributed more than $1.6 million last year to his own super PAC, American Unity PAC Inc.  He set up the PAC to make independent expenditures supporting Republican candidates who support same-sex marriage and opposing Democratic candidates. In 2011-2012, the PAC spent $2.7 million.

The PAC has received in-kind legal services valued at $131,735 from Paul Singer this year. The committee did not indicate what the legal issues were.

Update 7/29: A spokeswoman for the PAC stated there are no problems with the FEC and that the ‘legal fees’ were for general legal services during the last year.
