Uihlein Funds Chicago Radio Ads

The major donor to a tax-exempt organization that ran almost $500,000 in radio ads in the Chicago area this year has just been made public by the Internal Revenue Service.

Americas PAC, a Republican-oriented Section 527 organization, reported to the IRS that it had receipts of $300,000 and disbursements of $650,134 in the first six months of 2013. The only donor during the period was Richard Uihlein of Lake Forest, Ill., who is CEO of ULine Corp., a packaging material company.

The Section 527 organization spent $478,907 on radio advertising from March through June. They bought time on WPIX Radio, WMKB Radio, Univision WPPN, WILEY Radio, WNUA Radio, Univision WOJO and Univision WRTO. They also paid Right Way Media LLC (Mo.) $11,500 for newspaper advertising in La Raza, Metro Extra, Nuevo Siglo El Dia.

Americas PAC has run radio ads in earlier years seeking to get black and Hispanic voters to support Republican candidates. In 2012 Uilein gave $875,000 to the group.
