Both the Democratic and Republican senatorial campaign committees are still working to pay off debts from the 2012 elections, while senators from their party are sitting on millions in cash.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee reported $10 million in debts at the end of July, and the National Republican Senatorial Committee reports $5 million in debts. Both committees are carrying enough cash on hand to wipe out most of the debt, but both must have enough cash on hand for expenditures in the next the few months. In July, the Democrats paid down their debt by $1.25 million and the Republicans paid down $1.5 million.

Meanwhile, team help from the Senators of their party does not appear to be strong. A concerted effort from party leaders to get Senators to transfer some amount of excess funds to their senatorial campaign committee could easily wipe out the debts.

On the Republican side, here are some June 30 cash-on-hand figures for senators: Richard C. Shelby, R-Ala., $17.8 million; Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., $9.6 million; John Thune, R-S.D., $8.7 million; Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., $6.3 million; John Cornyn, R-Texas, $6 million; Bob Corker, R-Tenn., $5.8 million; Michael D. Crapo, R-Idaho, $3.2 million; Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., $3.1 million; Patrick J. Toomey, R-Pa., $3.1 million; Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., $3 million; among others.

On the Democratic side, here are some June 30 cash-on-hand figures for senators: Charles E. Schumer, D-N.Y., $9.8 million; former Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind., $9.8 million; Mark Warner, D-Va., $5.3 million; Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., $4.9 million; Richard J. Durbin, D-Ill., $4.3 million; Kay Hagan, D-N.C., $4.2 million; Bernard Sanders, I-Vt., $4.1 million; Mark Pryor, D-Ark., $3.9 million; Mark Udall, D-Colo.,$3.4 million; Max Baucus, D-Mont., $3.4 million; Al Franken, D-Minn. $3 million; among others.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee reported receipts of $13,014,165 and disbursements of $3,431,475, leaving $9,582,691 cash on hand as of July 31, with $10 million in debt from an outstanding loan. The committee received $175,000 from PACs and other committees.

Selected major donors included Abigail Disney (filmmaker, Calif.) $32,400; Maurice Tempelsman (executive, Leon Tempelsman & Son, N.Y.) $19,000; among others. The committee repaid $1.25 million on their outstanding loans.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee reported receipts of $9,698,441 and disbursements of $3,390,422 in July, leaving $6,308,020 cash on hand as of July 31, with debts of $5 million for outstanding loans. The committee received $208,300 from PACs and other committees.
