FEC Alerts Treasurers to a Gmail Issue

The Federal Election Commission today warned political committee treasurers that recent changes to Google’s Gmail system may be placing important FEC enforcement notices into a “promotions” category, not the recipient’s primary inbox.

The FEC Alert states: Alert for Gmail Users. If you have listed a Gmail email address on your Statement of Organization filed with the FEC, be sure to check your “Promotions” tab. Gmail recently changed the way it organizes incoming email, and some users are reporting to the FEC that important emails sent by the Reports Analysis Division concerning Requests for Additional Information have landed in their “Promotions” tab rather than in their primary inbox. For more information on Gmail tabs and how to configure them, please look at this article posted online by Google.
