Lobbying, Campaign Finance and IRS Reports Keep Moving During Shutdown

The federal agencies regulating campaign financing, lobbying reports and Section 527 political organizations, are continuing to receive new electronic filings during the government shutdown.

The Federal Election Commission is continuing to receive electronic filings of campaign finance reports and registrations. This morning SunTrust Bank Good Government Group Florida and the Americans for a Better Way filed their monthly reports covering its September activity. The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants PAC filed an amendment for its activity during June. Powell for Congress, D-Va., filed its third-quarter disclosure report. However, the public records office is closed today.

The clerk of the House of Representatives and the secretary of the Senate are continuing to receive new electronic lobbying reports and registrations. Manatt, Phelps, and Phillips filed a new lobbying registration for former Rep. Dennis Cardoza, D-Calilf., to lobby on behalf of the Professional Recreation Organization. Third-quarter lobbying reports have also been filed for certain clients by Park Strategies LLC, the Tomhave Group Inc., Marshall Brachman and Thomas Cator, among others. Both records offices are open to the public today.

The Internal Revenue Service, which regulates Section 527 political organization, is continuing to receive new electronic filings. This morning the IRS received a termination filing from the Associated Industries of Florida Leadership PAC, which was established in 2009.
