Funds leftover after campaigning often find a new purpose when they are given to nonprofit organizations and charities, or refunded to the original donors.

The campaign committee of former Rep. Henry E. Brown Jr., R-S.C., donated $50,415 in the third quarter to the Charleston Southern University, as well as $12,500 to other nonprofits.

The campaign committee of former Rep. John Tanner, D-Tenn., donated $10,000 to the Crockett Policy Institute in Alamo, Tennessee. He also gave $5,000 to the University of Tennessee Foundation and $5,000 to the International Student House in Washington, D.C. In the second quarter of 2013 he gave $25,000 to the International Conservation Caucus Foundation.

The campaign committee of former Rep. Ralph Regula, R-Ohio, gave $10,000 to his son’s campaign, David Regula for Trustee, in Navarre, Ohio.

The campaign committee of former Rep. Marty Meehan, who is now the chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Lowell, gave $26,250 to charities, including $7,500 to the Honor Flight of New England in Hooksett, N.H., and $5,000 to the Middlesex Community College Foundation.

The campaign committee of former Rep. Jerry Costello, D-Ill., gave $35,000 to the Cong. Jerry Costello NFP Charitable Corp. in Belleville, Ill. He also gave $20,000 to his son’s campaign, Jerry Costello II. See earlier post.

The campaign committee of Rep. John Campbell, R-Calif., who announced he is not seeking re-election in 2014, refunded $35,850 to contributors.
