Donna Sheldon estimated she will need close to $1 million for her bid to succeed Rep. Paul Broun in his conservative Georgia district.
Broun is running for Senate, and a handful of Republicans, including Sheldon, are scrambling to win the GOP nomination for his open seat. She will square off against at least four other Republicans.
“I think, definitely, the thing that sets me apart from the people in this primary is one, I’m a business owner, and I’ve served in the state House for 11 years,” she said in an Oct. 23 interview with CQ Roll Call. “So I have that legislative experience.”
Sheldon, a longtime state lawmaker, said she is not picking sides in the Senate GOP primary — another crowded race. Broun faces a field of more than a half-dozen candidates for the Senate nod.
“There are a lot of great candidates that are running, and I’m definitely excited to watch them as their campaigns progress,” Sheldon said.
Georgia’s 10th District is rated Safe Republican by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
