Both the Republican National Committee and the Democratic National Committee spent more than they raised during October.
The Republican National Committee reported it had receipts of $7,137,138 and expenditures of $9,284,727 in October, leaving $9,096,241 cash on hand as of 10/31. The committee received $3,175,946 from contributors giving $200 or less. Itemized contributions from Texas totaled $464,312.
The committee spent $1.7 million on mail production services; $1.3 million on postage; $1.2 million on telemarketing; and $814,168 on payroll; among other expenditures. The committee transferred $766,960 to state party committees, including $276,200 to the Republican Party of Virginia. The committee transferred $490,729 to local party committees and local candidates. The committee paid $155,931 to the Bopp Law Firm.

The Democratic National Committee reported it had receipts of $7,256,273 and expenditures of $8,507,287 in October, leaving $4,254,455 cash on hand as of 10/31, and $16,009,870 in debt. The committee raised $3,407,045 from contributors giving $200 or less. Itemized contributors from California gave $766,362.
The committee repaid the Amalgamated Bank of New York $400,000 on its outstanding loans. The committee spent $1.6 million on direct mail; $735,272 on telemarketing; $568,203 on data services; $484,631 on salaries; and $376,695 on polling expenses. The committee transferred $1,626,061 to state party committees, including $800,757 to the Virginia Democratic Party. The committee paid the law firm of Perkins Coie $112,106. The committee refunded $397,502 to individuals.
