Montana Triumvirate Backs Former Hill Staffer for House Seat

Montana’s top three statewide officials endorsed former Capitol Hill staffer John Lewis’ bid for the at-large district.

“John has traveled to every corner of our state as a problem-solver and a listener, and he knows it better than anyone I know. He will serve the people of Montana well,” said Democratic Sens. Max Baucus and Jon Tester and Gov. Steve Bullock in a joint statement released on Wednesday. Lewis is a former Baucus aide, and he’s also earned high marks from House Democrats. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee named Lewis to its Jumpstart program in September.

This is an open-seat race to replace Republican Rep. Steve Daines, who is running for Senate.

The potential GOP field includes state Sen. Matt Rosendale, and former state Senate Minority Leader Corey Stapleton. The race is rated Favored Republican by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
