Obama Fuels Surge in U.S. Arms Exports

“The Obama administration is making an aggressive push, both publicly and privately, to help US weapons manufacturers sell more arms overseas, including lobbying foreign leaders to purchase warships, aircraft, and missiles and relaxing some controls on the transfer of military components, according to administration and industry officials,” the Boston Globe reports.

“Since 2009, when President Obama took office, the United States has led a surge in global arms deals, accounting for nearly a third of the total of roughly $30 billion in international weapons transfers completed in 2012, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute.”
