Alabama Republican Releases Pair of Ads in Race to Replace Bachus
Alabama businessman Will Brooke launched a pair of introductory ads on Monday, two months out from a crowded and competitive open-seat Republican primary.
Brooke is one of a handful of Republicans vying to replace GOP Rep. Spencer Bachus, who announced his retirement from this Birmingham-based district in September. The race has thus far been marked by hefty fundraising by nearly all the top-tier candidates involved.
The bio ads will air in rotation on district-wide cable and broadcast, according to Brooke’s campaign. The first ad introduces Brooke as a conservative businessman and man of faith.

The second touts Brooke’s business credentials as the reason he can help change the culture of Washington, D.C.

Brooke is joined in the June 3 primary by state Sen. Scott Beason, state Rep. Paul DeMarco, surgeon and tea party activist Chad Mathis and social conservative activist Gary Palmer. Beason, who unsuccessfully challenged Bachus in 2012, entered the race earlier this year and has yet to file a fundraising report.
If no candidate receives a majority of the vote in the primary, the race heads to a July 15 runoff. With such a crowded primary field, a runoff is likely.
The eventual Republican nominee will be the heavy favorite to win the district, which voted for Mitt Romney by a 50-point margin in 2012 — making it one of the most heavily Republican districts in the country.
It’s rated a Safe Republican contest by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
