As members of Congress suit up for the 53rd Annual Roll Call Congressional Baseball Gam e, one congressional candidate is using America’s pastime to appeal to voters.
Wisconsin state Rep. Duey Stroebel is running in a contested Republican primary in the state’s 6th District, which was vacated when Rep. Tom Petri, R-Wis., announced his retirement .
Stroebel showcased his family in the 30-second spot released last week, and said he and his wife have used baseball to teach their children important life lessons. “Teamwork, discipline and always play by the rules,” Stroebel says over footage of his family on the field. “Lessons the career politicians haven’t learned. With big debt, more regulation, and Obamacare, the career politicians are striking out.”
Stroebel plays baseball with his children and has also coached a few of them in Little League. And if he were elected to Congress, he said he would consider joining the Republican team, which is hoping to redeem itself after the past few years’ devastating losses to the Democrats.
“My focus in Washington will be representing the people of the 6th District and that work will always come first,” Stroebel said in a statement to CQ Roll Call. “However, if my leadership and athletic abilities can help my fellow Republicans defeat the Democrats – I will be there to lend a hand.”
