New York Rep. Tom Reed raised more than $660,000 in the second quarter, according to numbers provided first to CQ Roll Call, a strong sum as the top Democratic target defends his upstate district.

The Republican, who faces Tomkins County Legislator Martha Robertson in November, ended June with $1.3 million in cash on hand. Robertson has not announced her second-quarter fundraising numbers, which are due to the Federal Election Commission on July 15. As of June 4, she had $882,000 on hand .

Democrats intend to put the 23rd District in play. Reed won in 2012 by a 3-point margin, running just ahead of Mitt Romney.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee reserved $465,000 in television airtime in the district this fall. Its GOP counterpart has not yet reserved any time.

The race is rated a Leans Republican contest by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
