The National Republican Senatorial Committee is launching a TV ad in Iowa Tuesday that criticizes Democratic Rep. Bruce Braley for his attendance record on the House floor and a committee he served.  

The NRSC Independent Expenditure Committee ad, shared first with CQ Roll Call, is at least the second one to slam Braley for missing a significant number of committee hearings.  

This one hits the congressman for his time on the Committee on Oversight & Government Reform, as well as for missing more votes than any other Iowa member. A previous spot from GOP-aligned Freedom Partners hit Braley for skipping Veterans’ Affairs hearings. The latest NRSC IE ad in Iowa is backed by a $500,000 buy and will air in Des Moines, Davenport and Cedar Rapids beginning Tuesday. It states he skipped 68 percent of hearings while serving on Oversight in the 110th and 112th congresses.  

“Bruce Braley isn’t showing up for Iowa,” the ad’s announcer says.

Braley faces Republican state Sen. Joni Ernst in the race for the seat of retiring Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin. It’s developed into a top GOP pickup opportunity and will help decide which party holds the majority in the next Congress.  

The race is rated a Tossup by the Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
