Jen Psaki’s heading back to the West Wing.  

Replacing Jennifer Palmieri, who is reportedly heading to the nascent Hillary Clinton campaign, the current State Department spokeswoman is no stranger to President Barack Obama, the White House press corps or Capitol Hill. The White House released this statement from the president:

“Over the past three years, Jen Palmieri has served as a brilliant and effective Communications Director and trusted advisor. More importantly, she has become a good friend. I will miss her deeply – and I wish her success in the future. I’d say Jen is irreplaceable – if Jen Psaki hadn’t agreed to step in. Jen worked on both my campaigns, she’s served in the White House, and she’s traveled the world as an advisor to Secretary Kerry. I fully trust Jen – and I am thrilled she’s agreed to come back to the White House as Communications Director.”

A White House official noted Psaki’s work with Obama dates back to 2007, making her the “obvious” choice for the job.  

She starts on April 1.  

Psaki has previously held the deputy communications director role, served as a press secretary on Obama’s presidential campaigns and has traveled to more than 50 countries with Secretary of State John Kerry, per the White House.  

She also has a Capitol Hill pedigree: She served as communications director for Joseph Crowley, D-N.Y., and as a regional press secretary for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.  

She also opened the Washington, D.C. office of Global Strategy Group, a New York-based communications and research firm, when she wasn’t working for Obama.
