White House ‘Willing to Sign’ Iran Bill

After weeks of negotiations, the White House now appears poised to sign the Corker-Melendez Iran bill after it passed through a Senate Foreign Relations Committee markup on a 19-0 vote.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said President Barack Obama “would be willing to sign” compromise legislation, but cautioned the bill would need to go through markup — Earnest was asked about the bill ahead of a Tuesday afternoon hearing.

“We’ve gone from a piece of legislation that the president would veto to a piece of legislation that’s undergone substantial revision, such that it is now in a form of a compromise that the president would be willing to sign,” Earnest said.
