We Are Watchmen Raps Things Up for Ted Cruz
Christian musicians We Are Watchmen want the world to know we’re all doomed — unless Sen. Ted Cruz is handed the keys to the White House ASAFP.
The right-wing rhyme spitters paint the Texas Republican as a potential savior in their latest track, “Set It On Fire.”
The lyrics, performed over electronic handclaps and adult contemporary keyboard playing, exalt conservative values and Reagan worship. We much prefer the bluesy-jazzy feel of the group’s previous effort, “Stand.”
Anyone else think WAW front man Joe Salant sounds eerily like Insane Clown Posse co-founder Violent J?
(If not, my apologies to any Juggalos offended by the comparison.)
The pro-Cruz ditty doesn’t really do it for us. But that’s not to say we couldn’t grow to dig this band.
WAW could, for instance, partner with patriotic performers Madison Rising on a base-energizing rap-rock anthem.
The bar is set pretty high, though.
They’d have to play their guts out to make us forget about the Helmet-House of Pain collaboration, “Just Another Victim.”
Or Mos Def working out with Black Jack Johnson on “Zimzallabim.”
Then there’s our personal favorite: the head-thumping, party-pumping ferocity displayed by Public Enemy and Anthrax on the remake of “Bring the Noise.”
